David and John “Smiley McGee” Kenny, who write the David Chicken songs, won their second Emmy Award through the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The award was for Musical Composition, something near and dear to both David and John. After winning last year for “Arts / Entertainment” this was an unexpected surprise, and a great honor. “It lends a bit more credibility to a guy who sings and dances with a chicken on his head” said David.

David & his fantastic crew won an Emmy Award through the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) for David’s first DVD, The Adventures Of … David Chicken (available at the Chicken Store). The Emmy was awarded in the “Arts / Entertainment - Program / Special” category.

How did David & crew end up with an Emmy? It all started with David's involvement with the ALLenReads program. David did a live show at the Allen Public Library in 2007 and Allen City Television (ACTV) filmed it. They started airing the show and were “impressed with David’s talent,” so they proposed filming a music video with David. “Book a Trip” promotes reading so it was a natural fit with their reading program. Directed by Mark Kaufmann with ACTV, “Book a Trip” was filmed in the Allen Public Library and aired on ACTV shortly after that.

After airing the live concert footage and “Book A Trip” and receiving “rave reviews”, ACTV started airing David’s DVD as well, divided into segments that aired like a series. Since ACTV aired the DVD and “Book a Trip”, they qualified for entry into the competition and both received a nomination.

David was thankful to have Mama Chicken in attendance at the event in Houston, along with girlfriend/camera person/creative consultant Amanda Martin. Also in attendance were John & Christina Kenny (John is Producer & “Smiley McGee” in the DVD) and Mark Kaufmann & Scott Evans with the City of Allen.

David would also like to thank business partner Glenn Hadsall of Springbot Productions, who helped enormously with the DVD. All were extremely excited and honored to win!

SPECIAL THANKS goes out to all the families who helped make the Allen Library shoot a success!
